Meet The Team

Founder & CEO
Coach Elliot
Hi, I’m Elliot Yashayev, the founder of Brooklyn Chess. Chess has been a passion of mine for years, and while I’ve been playing more seriously recently, I know that learning never stops. That mindset shapes the way I teach—chess isn’t just about winning, it’s about resilience, strategy, and the ability to keep improving. After all, "The best players aren’t the ones who never lose, but the ones who never quit."
Teaching has always been second nature to me. Even as a kid, I loved sharing knowledge—whether it was helping my siblings learn the presidents, geography, and history, or later teaching English in Japan. Now, through Brooklyn Chess, I bring that same passion for learning to the game I love.
Beyond chess, I enjoy playing guitar and always look for ways to challenge myself creatively and intellectually. At Brooklyn Chess, my goal is to create an environment where students don’t just improve at chess, but also develop patience, confidence, and the ability to think ahead—skills that go far beyond the board. Whether you're just starting out or looking to sharpen your game, I look forward to helping you advance your chess journey.
